NYSBA Committee on Animals and the Law: Fourth Annual Student Writing Competition

As I have previously noted in this blog, I am on the New York State Bar Association’s (“NYSBA”) Committee on Animals and the Law (“CAL”).  On this Committee, I assist with the annual Student Writing Competition.  For all you law students out there, the deadline for the Fourth Annual Student Writing Competition is June 30, 2011.  The first place winner will receive a $1000 scholarship and the second place winner will receive a $500 scholarship. The paper must be on any topic concerning animal law.  The topics do not necessarily have to be on companion law issues (although they certainly are welcome).  Submissions can also discuss issues pertaining to livestock, exotic animals and wildlife.  Any student (full time or part-time) in an ABA-accredited law school is welcome to participate.  You can view the rules for submissions here.  All animal law professors and law school deans will be contacted within the next month.  For more information, please talk to your law school or contact Kim Hojohn at the NYSBA.  I really enjoyed reading all the essay submissions last summer and looking forward to reading them again next July.

I took this photograph at Mark King’s in Big Timber, Montana while I was interning at the American Simmental Association in Bozeman (gorgeous area).  My love for Simmental cattle might come out from time-to-time on this blog.  As an aside, I will be attending the Hudson Pines Sale and Gala in Sleepy Hollow, New York later on in the month.  See you Simmental people there!
