To sell wine in New Jersey, one must hold a retail license. In New Jersey, retail licenses are “Class C” licenses. See N.J.S.A. 33:1-12. The types of Retail licenses are as follows:
- Plenary Retail Consumption license (this fee is set by the municipality and is between $250 – $2,500 per year),
- Plenary Retail Consumption license with “Board Package Privilege”,
- Seasonal Retail Consumption license,
- Hotel/Motel license,
- Theater license,
- Plenary Retail Consumption license with Brew Pub license,
- Plenary Retail Distribution license (this fee is set by the municipality and is between $125 – $2,500 per year),
- Limited Retail Distribution license,
- Plenary Retail Transit license,
- Club License
Wholesale licenses are “Class B” licenses. See N.J.S.A. 33:1-11. The types of Wholesale licenses are as follows:
- Plenary Wholesale license,
- Limited Wholesale license,
- Wine Wholesale license,
- State Beverage Distributor’s license.
Holding these licenses range from $1,031 to $8,750 per year.
