Ask Kym: How Can I Legally Protect My Wishes if I am Hospitalized and My Family Cannot Visit due to COVID-19?

I have already heard of several cases from family, friends, and colleagues about family members (even spouses and children) being restricted from seeing patients affected by illness and COVID-19.  This is extremely sad because loved ones in comas or other dire circumstances are unable to be comforted by their family and friends.  They are also unable to communicate their wishes pertaining to medical treatments.

Since this virus has been more aggressive than the medical field and Americans anticipated, many of these people do not have estate planning documents in place.  With hospital and medical staff being so overwhelmed and the virus moving so quickly through vulnerable populations, it is increasingly important to make sure that your loved ones, and the hospital and medical professionals, know your wishes.

Rincker Law provides comprehensive estate planning including power of attorney, health care proxy and living will, medical power of attorney, last will and testament, burial information, and revocable living trusts.  We are able to work remotely and able to have your, or your loved ones, estate planning documents prepared and emailed to for execution.
