I was speaking a few nights a go to a crew of cattlemen about how to start the conversation with family members on estate and succession planning. I recommended that if the conversation is particularly challenging to start to consider hiring a mediator (or even a virtual mediator) who understands agriculture to move the conversation along; however, what has worked for your family? There is no one right answer here as I know every family is different. Do you ask for a family meeting and bring it up?
I’m interested in writing an article on this topic and would love to hear stories (even anonymous stories) of what has worked for some farm and ranch families.
